Catani Gardens -St Kilda

St Kilda's traditional Indigenous name is Euro-Yroke which means the "grinding stone place" where the local Boon Wurrung people sharpened their stone axes. 

St Kilda has consistently maintained a gritty subterranean counterpart since 1842. The Melbourne suburbs century long parallel identity as a hub for gangsters, prostitution and drug culture and bohemian defiance is also famous for its beachfront glamour palm trees and Luna Park.  

 The duality of surrealism in multiple exposure photography lies in its power to merge conflicting layers of reality. My black and white images of Catani Gardens St Kilda merge constructed surrealism (the physical layering of images) and inherent surrealism (the camera's natural distortion of reality). The black and white images offer a parallel subterranean view.
